The CosmeSurg Nose Job: The "Nose Job" is one of the most striking cosmetic surgery options available. The dramatic confidence it can bring you can be wonderfully life changing. You can refine the bridge, tip or overall profile; it can also relieve any breathing difficulties caused by injury. Your Nasal Plastic surgeon is an expert in corrective nose surgery, performing more rhinoplasty than almost any other procedures for both men and woman. Come and talk to us about rhinoplasty and how it can help YOU become a confident, happier person.
The Complete range of Cosmetic Nose Surgery
- Reduction Rhinoplasty…. (reduction in nasal size ) including hump reduction, Nose Straightening, Reshaping and shortening.
- Augmentation Rhinoplasty…..Building up a flattened or "saddle" nose from trauma, ethnic trait or inherited facial features.
- Revision Rhinoplasty ( re do's from other surgeons )
- Ethnic Rhinoplasty, the ASIAN , Mediterranean and African- Carribean clients are increasingly seeking these procedures.
- Tip refinement : this is the finesse and artistic element so often neglected by by most non specialist Rhinoplasty surgeons
The majority of rhinoplasties are done internally i.e. with incisions inside the nose and no external scars. Sometimes it is necessary to do them externally with a small external incision in the partition between nostrils known as the Columella. In time the scar becomes virtually invisible. This procedure is reserved for certain difficult cases that require more tip work and revision cases. Rhinoplasty remains a popular and common cosmetic procedure and despite the confusing terminology ALL cases are tailored to satisfy your needs.
Your private consultation is in depth and vital to a successful outcome! Do YOU feel unhappy with the size and/or shape of your nose?
Nose Surgery (Rhinoplasty) FAQs
- Who will nose surgery (Rhinoplasty) benefit?
- Ideally anyone over the age of 18 years, in good medical health who requires
correction of a cosmetic nasal defect. This may be a reduction in nasal size which may include a hump, straightening the nasal bones and shortening the apparent length of the nose. This is called a reduction rhinoplasty. Some nasal profiles show a significant "saddle" deformity either from previous trauma, ethnic traits or inherited facial characteristics. This is known as an "augmentation" rhinoplasty. It will require a cartilage graft either from the patients nasal septum or their auricular (ear) cartilage to cover the saddle shaped defect.
Surgery for Asian, Mediterranean and African-American clients require a deep understanding of their special racial characteristics and this is an increasing market especially in the British Isles where third generation immigrants are becoming more Europeanized. This variant is called the "Ethnic" rhinoplasty.
Those clients unfortunate enough to require a second procedure present the rhinoplastic surgeon with a unique and difficult problem known as revision or secondary rhinoplasty.
All these procedures may require refinement of the nasal tip. The artistry and finesse to perform this aspect require years of study and experience, often beyond the realm of most non rhinoplasty ultra specialists
- How is nose surgery done?
- The operation can be done under local anaesthesia with sedation or under general anaesthetic. The majority of cases are performed utilizing internal incisions that are not visible and hence no external scars. Sometimes it is required to make an external incision in the columella ( the partition between nostrils). This is called the open or external approach. It depends what needs to be done to the nose; for example, when placing a cartilage graft.
- What results can I expect from my nose surgery?
- It is vital to have realistic expectations and this is where the preoperative consultation is so important. Both client and surgeon have to sing from the same hymn sheet so to speak.
- How long is the recovery period?
- Rhinoplasty is not usually painful, but that doesn't mean it is not uncomfortable.
Most patients are ready to go back to light work two to three weeks after the operation. Contact sports are not recommended for several months. Some surgeons may argue that they will only perform a rhinoplasty when a contact sport athlete has retired from active competition!
- Are there any after effects to rhinoplasty?
- Bruising and black eyes are so common as well as nasal blockage, light seepage of blood, temporary loss of smell and swelling. These are short lived and last for two weeks or so
- Are there risks associated with rhinoplasty?
- • Surgical complications are bleeding, infection, septal haematoma (a blood collection between the two opposing lining layers of the internal nose), collapse of the nasal bridge, loose fragments of bone and approximately a 10% revision surgery rate even in the most experienced hands. These are the main ones, for a more in depth account talk this over with your surgeon. Please let your surgeon know if you are allergic to elastoplast, latex rubber, iodine or any other drugs.
- Can I combine rhinoplasty with other procedures?
- Yes ! It can be done in conjunction with a septoplasty ( straightening the nasal cartilage partition). This is called a septorhinoplasty and is a very common procedure performed by an Otolaryngologist ( Ear, Nose and Throat Surgeon).
It is also possible to have a chin augmentation or lip enhancement performed simultaneously.
Also, post rhinoplasty you may have dermal fillers to fine tune the results you wish to achieve . Our non-surgical department have some of the most experienced practitioners in this field.. have a look : www.cosmedocs.co.uk/nose
- How do I choose a surgeon?
- The experience of the surgeon is vital. It takes many years to be a competent rhinoplasty surgeon and more so to deal with all the complications that may arise.
In the UK the rhinoplasty is most commonly performed by an ENT surgeon ( Otolaryngologist) following trauma, nasal osbstruction and coexisting problems.
Ask your surgeon if he is an "Ultra Specialist" in the field of Plastic Nasal Surgery and Functional surgery of the nose.
The nose sets the tone of the face, your nose must look good and function properly too. The art of the nasal plastic surgeon with the science of the otolaryngologist is brought together par excellence in cosmetic rhinoplasty, the most difficult procedure in facial cosmetic surgery!
- How do I arrange to have rhinoplasty?
- Simply e mail us or call us
Asian cosmetic nose surgery, can it be done?
YES ABSOLUTELY !! It is a rapidly growing area. We often get requests for this.

Eye Bag Removal
The eyes can indicate age more than any other part of the face. They also show our emotion, and we use them to communicate with others. Eyelid surgery can have amazing effects on your overall appearance. The process of blepharoplasty (more commonly known as eyebag removal surgery or eye lid surgery) removes some of the excess skin and tissue area around the eye to create a fresher, more youthful look.
Suitable Candidates Any one or combination of the following conditions could indicate that you may be a good candidate for eyelid surgery:
- Excess skin obscuring the natural fold of the upper eyelids
- Loose skin hanging down from the upper eyelids, perhaps impairing vision
- A puffy appearance to the upper eyelids, making the eyes look tired
- Excess skin and fine, 'crepe paper type' wrinkles of the lower eyelids
- Bags and dark circles under the eyes
- Lower eyelid droopiness
The procedure for eye bag removal surgery The eye bag removal procedure is often carried out as a day case procedure where the upper and lower lids can be operated on either together or separately. The procedure usually takes between 1 to 3 hours to complete.
Upper Eyelid Surgery When the upper eyelid surgery is performed, a local anaesthetic may be all that is required. Upper eyelid surgery can be performed under sedation - your Cosmetic Surgeon will advise you further as to the procedure most suitable for you. The incision is made in the natural crease line that occurs 1 cm above the eyelashes. The incisions might extend into the crow's feet or laughter lines at the outer corners of your eyes. Working through the incisions your Cosmetic Surgeon will separate the skin from the subcutaneous layers and remove excess fat and trim the sagging muscle and skin. The incisions will then be closed with very fine sutures or with surgical glue.
Lower Eyelid Surgery Lower eyelid surgery is usually performed under general anaesthetic. The incision usually starts at the outer margin of the eyelashes. The skin is then lifted upwards and outwards, gently tensioning the area and the overlapping skin is removed. Again the incisions will then be closed with very fine sutures.
recovery from eye bag removal There will be some pink scarring along the inner margin of the lower lash and socket line to the upper lid which will normally fade quickly to leave faint white lines. There will also be some bruising and swelling during the recovery period. Stitches are normally removed 3 to 7 days after surgery and most people return to work 7 days after their procedure.

Facelift & Neck Lift – Rhytidectomy
A facelift, technically known as a rhytidectomy is a procedure used in plastic surgery to give a more youthful appearance. It usually involves the removal of excess facial skin, with or without the tightening of underlying tissues, and the re-draping the skin on the patient's face and neck.
In the traditional facelift, an incision is made in front of the ear extending up into the hairline. The incision curves around the bottom of the ear and then behind it, usually ending near the hairline on the back of the neck. The skin is then pulled upwards and backwards and the amount of excess skin to be removed is determined by feel. The excess skin is then removed and the skin incisions are closed with sutures and staples. Facelifts work best in women with thin skin and good bone structure. They are best for eliminating loose skin folds in the neck and wrinkles in the cheeks.
Key Facts General anesthesia or local anesthesia with IV (intravenous) sedation
Length of procedure:3 to 5 hours
Length of stay:Usually dismissed the day after surgery
Anticipate: Temporary bruising (3 weeks) and swelling (at least 4 to 6 weeks but can last longer); numbness and tenderness of skin; dry or tight-feeling skin
Discomfort: Moderate with prescription pain medications
Duration of results: Typically 5 to 7 years

Brow Lift |
A brow uplift corrects the skin wrinkling and loss of tone that causes sagging of your eyebrows and hooding of your upper eyelids. A brow uplift softens the deep creases across your forehead. It reduces the horizontal frown lines at the top of your nose and the vertical lines between your brows. The result is a more relaxed and refreshed appearance. The procedure is often performed along with a facelift or other facial rejuvenation procedures.
What to expect Three surgical approaches can be used to accomplish a brow lift. Each enables the surgeon to hide the incision:
Coronal brow lift An incision is made in the hairline across the top of the head from ear to ear. The surgeon lifts the forehead to its new position, with the scalp in front of the incision overlapping the scalp behind it. The overlapping scalp is removed and the remaining scalp sewn together. Some muscles of the forehead are deliberately weakened to allieviate horizontal forehead lines. Sensory nerves at the top of the head are involved, and as a result, temporary itching or numbness is common following the procedure.
Hairline brow lift
A hairline brow lift is often used if someone has a high receding hairline. An incision is made between the top of the forehead and the beginning of the hairline. The hairline is not pulled back when the skin is removed. The technique can yield dramatic improvements in horizontal creases. However, depending upon healing, a scar may be visible along the hairline. The technique works best for those who wear bangs.
Endoscopic brow lift
Using an endoscope with a tiny camera mounted at its end, the surgeon makes four to six small incisions behind the hairline and then shifts the skin backward on the head. Some surgeons place small screws into the skull bone to temporarily support the skin until it heals. Stitches are placed around the screws to anchor the skin at its new location.
A brow lift will not diminish crow's-feet or affect the puffiness or bulging that can occur in the upper or lower eyelids. Some horizontal lines will likely return in people who have expressive faces. Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) can be combined with a brow lift or with a face-lift to decrease the visible signs of aging.
Risks
The risks associated with brow lift may include, but are not limited to:
• Problems related to anesthesia
• Bleeding
• Infection
• Swelling and bruising for several weeks
Coronal brow lifts often cause temporary or permanent numbness on top of the scalp. This numbness is usually not a problem with endoscopic lifts. Paralysis of the forehead as a result of nerve damage occurs in fewer than 1 percent of patients.
If the new position of brows appears higher on one side following the surgery, it may be consistent with the asymmetry present before the surgery. Since everyone is asymmetrical, asymmetry may remain after surgery.
Key Facts Anesthesia: General
Length of procedure: 2 to 3 hours
Length of stay: Home same day; in some cases, 1 night in the hospital
Discomfort: Mild, controllable with acetaminophen or prescription pain medication
Anticipate: Swelling and bruising that usually improve in 3 weeks; rarely, injury to facial nerve, which can cause facial droopiness or partial paralysis; scalp numbness, itchiness and hair loss at incision site
Final result: 4 to 6 weeks
Duration of results: Usually 5 to 7 years

| Cheek & Chin Implant |
|
Facial implants
Facial implants for the cheeks and/or chin can bring facial features into greater harmony and enhance their definition and youthfulness. Both types of implants can strengthen the features and profile of the face. Each involves placing synthetic materials deep under the subcutaneous tissue and onto the underlying bone. There are several types of facial implants made of different materials. The surgeon will choose an implant based on prior experience and what is best for the patient.
Cheek and chin implants are distinctive from other cosmetic surgeries in several ways: multiple options; minimal surgical access can often be used to place the implants; and results are often dramatic. Most people are pleased with their decision to have facial contour procedures. Adjusting to a new appearance is a consideration in making a decision.
What to expect
Usually, chin and cheekbone implant surgery is performed through incisions made inside the mouth. In some cases, surgery will be performed through a small incision under the chin. The surgeon will explain which procedure is best. The implants are placed into a pocket or space created under the skin. They may be secured there with small surgical screws or permanent sutures.
In a few cases reducing cheekbones or the jawbone may be the best option. This is done by contouring the underlying bone or removing excess skin and subcutaneous tissue.
Chin alterations Cosmetic surgery of the chin enhances a person's profile by creating a proportional balance with other facial features such as the neck, lips, nose and forehead. A receding chin, for example, can make an average nose seem large.
A large chin can be reduced with surgery. The surgeon makes an incision inside the mouth and beneath the lower lip and reduces the bone using bone-contouring instruments. Once the incision is closed, special tape may be placed over the chin during the initial healing period. This surgery can be performed alone or in combination with other facial cosmetic surgery, such as rhinoplasty or a facelift.
A small chin can be augmented with a variety of implants, which are inserted through an incision beneath the chin or inside the mouth behind the lower lip. A pocket is created at the tip of the chin and an implant is positioned inside it. The oral approach avoids a visible scar. Once the incision is closed, the chin may be supported by tape for several days to decrease swelling and prevent fluid accumulation.
Another option is to move a portion of the bone at the tip of the chin forward (a sliding advancement genioplasty). This makes the chin more prominent and can also address any needed vertical changes as well. The surgery is performed through an incision inside the mouth in the area of the lower lip. The bone is cut above the lower border of the chin and below the lower front teeth. The chin is carefully detached, moved forward and stabilized with wires, or plates and screws.
Cheek alterations A number of procedures are available to enhance the cheekbone (malar). These procedures are typically performed through small incisions inside the mouth in the upper jaw area. A pocket is created and the implant positioned and secured.
Special situations In some cases patients may benefit from a custom implant. Special imaging is used to create a model that is used to fabricate a custom implant for the specific need.
Risks
The risks associated with facial contour alterations may include, but are not limited to:
- Problems related to anesthesia
- Infection. Your physician may prescribe antibiotics after surgery to prevent infection of an implant. If an infection develops with the implant, removal may necessary.
- Extrusion, a condition in which the implant can be seen through the skin, is a rare risk. If this occurs, the implant must be surgically removed. In some cases, the implant may shift or collect fluid, also requiring a second surgery.
- Swelling and discoloration of the overlying skin may last for several weeks to months.
- Some temporary numbness or tingling may occur but will usually diminish over time. Permanent numbness is rare.
There have been no reports of medical diseases or disorders caused by using synthetic materials for facial contouring. Some studies have shown slight bone erosion under some implants placed on the chin. Rarely, chin erosion can be significant and even affect the roots of teeth.

| Ear Correction |

Otoplasty
Otoplasty, is a cosmetic surgery to change the appearance of a person's external ears. Otoplasty can take many forms, such as bringing the ears closer to the head (often called ear pinning), reducing the size of very big ears, or reshaping various bends in the cartilage. Other reconstructive procedures deal with the deformed, or absent (microtic) ears. Otoplasty surgery can involve a combination of moving, reshaping, adding, or removing structural ear elements. This procedure is usually performed by either an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, plastic surgeon, or ENT surgeon.
Cosmetic ear surgery (otoplasty) repositions and reshapes the ear to give it a more pleasing appearance. It is usually done to improve protruding or too large ears. Otoplasty is often performed on both ears for a consistent appearance.
What to expect
Prior to surgery, the surgeon will talk with you about the symmetry of your ears. Most ears are not symmetrical (both identical). Your surgeon will make an incision behind the ear to weaken the cartilage. The cartilage is then folded in to the proper position and secured with stitches. Cartilage and skin may need to be removed; sometimes one ear needs more correction than the other. In rare cases, the surgeon will make an incision in front of the ear. Usually scars from surgery are not visible. Patients may be required to wear a headband over their ears for two to four weeks after surgery. Most patients are pleased with the results of otoplasty. In rare cases, the ear may return to its original position and require a second operation.
The risks associated with otoplasty may include, but are not limited to:
• Problems related to anesthesia
• Bleeding
• Infection
• In rare cases, a stitch used to secure the ear will work its way to the surface and will have to be removed

Who is a Candidate for Lip Reduction Surgery It is hard to believe that anyone would want to reduce the size of their lips. Full, glossy lips are so popular in our world today. But there is a percentage of people who have lips that are too large and can actually affect their every day routines. Eating, talking or trying to maintain dental health can become difficult when the proportion of the lips is out of sync with the face.
Teasing or ridicule is common among people with lips that are too large. This can cause a lack of confidence in anyone with this particular problem and can also cause the person to avoid contact with others because they fear being humiliated or rejected by the public. For these reasons, people with lips that are too large might want to consider lip reduction surgery.
There are four types of people who usually opt for this procedure.
1. People of certain genetic or race are born with thick lips. They in their effort to mingle with the general population want to reduce the lip size.
2. Those who had gone for a surgical procedure for lip augmentation in their quest for full pout lips but are not satisfied with result because of abnormal lumps on lips as a consequence of a botched lip enhancement surgery may also go for lip reduction surgery to even out the lumps.
3. Some people are born with congenial lip deformities like cleft lips. They also need Cheiloplasty to correct these lip abnormalities.
4. There are yet another section of people who may need this type of lip surgery. They are the people who had accidents or burn injuries that left excess healing tissues that needs to be surgically removed. It is not uncommon for an injured lip to heal with lumps or bumps that can look unattractive and impair function.
The surgery itself is a way to balance out the lip area. Usually one lip is larger then the other and has to be put in balance with the remaining lip as well as the nose and chin.
Lip Reduction surgically reduces the appearance of larger-than-desirable lips. It involves taking a small section of tissue from the inside of your lip and suturing it with either dissolvable or non-dissolvable stitches.
People who are thinking about getting a lip reduction should first find a reputable plastic surgeon. Thanks to the Internet, most plastic surgeons are listed and also rated and reviewed. Their credentials can be checked and if they were ever sued for malpractice, it will also be listed along with the reviews.
After finding a physician, they can than schedule a consultation. During the initial consultation the patient has to disclose any medication he or she is using and the surgeon must go over in detail the procedure being done. He must also include the time it will take to heal and any after care instructions. At this time, the patient also needs to go over what result they expect from the surgeon. The surgeon will explain if he can meet these expectations and what to expect after the surgery is completed.
A few days before the actually surgery the patient goes again to the surgeon to discuss any other things that might come up. This is called the preoperative appointment. The surgeon will also discuss the pre care and after care following surgery and prescribe any medications or antibiotics needed.
This is is the most important step in the whole process of lip reduction surgery because this is the time when you must have a very clear discussion with the surgeon about your complaints, concerns and the various looks one can achieve, the amount of skin that can and should be removed, etc. Your surgeon will explain the technique and incision placements or methods that may be most appropriate for you and should discuss the risks associated with lip reduction as well.
Time Required for Lip Reduction Surgery Procedure The surgery is usually done under a local anesthesia and takes about 1-2 hours to perform lip reduction surgery. Time requirement can vary depending on the extent of surgery being done. The surgeon removes a strip of skin from one or both of the lips, to balance the lip area out. After the surgery it can take from 7 to 14 days to heal fully. In some cases, stitches might have to be removed after 10 days depending on the type of sutures that were used.
Lip reduction surgery is done in out patient basis.
And since this surgery is of cosmetic nature insurance cover is not available.
For enhanced results, lip reduction can be combined with:
- Rhinoplasty
- Facelift
- Facial Implants
- Swelling and discoloration of the overlying skin may last for several weeks to months.
Performed ElswhereOne the positive aspect of this surgery is that it is permanent in its result.
So you need to be very clear about exactly what kind of look you are expecting from the procedure and have a frank discussion with your surgeon before the lip reduction surgery is actually done.
Recovery Time for Lip Reduction Surgery
Your swelling will subside within a few weeks, but usually the final result will be visible after about 3 months of the surgical procedure. You may notice a change in your smile, odd sensations of "hollowness", tingling, the sporadic sharp pain, or "pulling", burning, and cold sensations. These usually subside within the first few weeks.
You can return to work at 5 to 7 days – but it depends upon type of your work. If you have a sedentary (desk job) with little or no amount of talking it is ok to resume your work after about a week. If your job requires high impact activity you may need more time off .Consult with your surgeon regarding this.
Post Operative Care for Lip Reduction Surgery
Just like any other surgery, lip reduction has risks. Patients are at risk of getting a bacterial infection and may be allergic to the anesthesia. After surgery the lip area may also become numb. Usually this goes away. But in a small percentage of people it is permanent.
After the lip reduction surgery you need a few precautions about the food you eat. Wash thoroughly any raw food or vegetables that you eat. Avoid spicy and hot foods until your lips are completely healed. It's also a good idea to avoid having raw fish, rare meat or other types of food that may contain high amounts of bacteria. You may be instructed to rinse with Listerine several times a day. Do not to pick or tongue your incisions and sutures. Your doctor may advice you to refrain from contact sports for at least 6 to 8 weeks after lip reduction.
COMPLICATIONS
Unfortunately, all surgery has risks and complications.
Infection
Chance of asymmetry
Hypertrophic scarring
Numbness -- usually subsides within the first few weeks, but may be permanent
General dissatisfaction |
