What is hyaluronic acid?
Hyaluronic acid is a sugar based molecule that exists naturally in almost all living organisms, including humans. It acts as lubricant or shock absorber in the joints, helps to transport nutrients to the cells and regulates water levels in the skin.
CosMedocs, London use Dermal Fillers which contain non-animal based hyaluronic acids in a soft gel formation. This product is ideal for replenishing the appearance of the skin because it closely resembles the hyaluronic acid that is naturally found in the body, ensuring complete compatibility with skin tissue.
What are the benefits of Dermal Fillers?
Dermal fillers are a safe, easy way to enhance your looks without invasive surgery. Results are immediate and long-lasting, and because the procedure is quick and only mildly uncomfortable, there is no lengthy recovery time; in fact you can be back at work the next day!
The procedure allows you to closely control the condition of your skin as you age and will not affect your facial expressions, providing a subtly enhanced, natural result that nobody else need know about. Best of all, treatment can be individually tailored to target the areas you are most concerned about, so you can see a real difference in the areas you need it most.
What areas can be treated?
Our dermal fillers can be used almost anywhere on the face to smooth away wrinkles, add volume and enhance the appearance of the skin. The treatment can also be used to improve the appearance of the neck, hands and décolletage.
The most commonly treated areas are:
• Nose to mouth lines (the nasolabial folds or “marionette lines”)
• Between the eyebrows (the glabella lines)
• Lips (adding volume and shape)
• Cheeks and chin (shaping and contouring)
• Back of the hands, décolletage, face, neck
How long do filler treatments last?
One of the great advantages of Dermal Fillers is that the effects are long lasting but not permanent. Restylane and Teosyal are biodegradable products, which means they will naturally breakdown in the body over time. How long results last differs depending on age, skin type, skin condition and lifestyle but it can be up to 12 months, and even longer after subsequent treatments.
Typically, a follow-up session is recommended every 6 months after the first treatment.
Dermal fillers in the lips last approximately 6 months.
Do filler treatments need pain relief?
Most people do not require pain relief during treatment to correct lines and wrinkles. Your physician will work at your pace and stop the procedure at any time if you are experiencing pain. A local anaesthetic cream can be applied to the area if you experience discomfort.
A local anaesthetic or dental block is used before lip treatment to ensure the procedure is as comfortable as possible.
Do I need to take a skin test?
No. Hyaluronic filler does not contain any animal-derived ingredients so it is compatible with all skin types.
However, if you have recently had a laser or chemical peel treatment, it is recommended you wait until the area is totally healed before undergoing treatment with Dermal Fillers. Your practitioner will advise you when your skin is ready for treatment.
