Botox Clinic London For Cosmetic & Medical Conditions

As we age, our face starts developing wrinkles and fine lines. In some people, the effect of ageing is more prominent and dominating which give then older appearance as compared to other people of same age. Factors that increase wrinkles, especially in the upper face include excessive repetitive expression such as habits of frowning, raising the eyebrows.   Other factors such as prolonged sunlight exposure leads to excessive squinting leading to early development of lines around the eyes called crow’s feet. Thanks to the advancement in medicine and discovery of new non-surgical aesthetic treatments, it has become quite easy to alleviate and reduce the signs of ageing by using Botox treatment.

Botox is neuropeptide approved by FDA for use in aesthetic treatments. These wrinkle relaxing injections have been extensively used for treating wrinkles, fine lines and for reduction of exaggerated facial features. Millions of treatments using Botox have been performed in the USA & UK. It’s been used for treating numerous ailments for more than two decades, now. Due to its property of neural inhibition Botox injections offer safe, highly effective, quick acting and easy treatment option for variety of conditions not just for cosmetic treatments but for other different medical conditions. According to one of the study conducted on the application of Botox in the non-cosmetic treatment of neck and head conditions.

The study found positive effects of the Botox treatment (Persaud,R., Garas,G., Silva,S. (2013). An evidence based review of Botulinum Toxin (Botox) applications in non-cosmetic head and neck conditions.

JRSM Short Rep. 2013 Feb; 4(2): 10.)

Another prospective study conducted to evaluate how the long-term and repeated injections of Botulinum help in improving the motor function of the children having cerebral palsy. The results showed that Botox injections have long-term effects on the gross motor functioning of the children having cerebral palsy

(Valevski,A.F., Domenievitz,D.,Giladi, N., J Child Orthop. 2008 Feb; 2(1): 29–35.)

There are many other studies which have established the effectiveness of botulinum toxin in treating numerous medical conditions with positive results.

We are proud to have a professional, qualified and highly trained team of cosmetic doctors and surgeons with accumulative experience of tens of thousands of Botox / Dysport / Azzlaure / Bocouture / Vistabel procedures. Our staff is experienced and well-trained in providing the patients with Botox treatment for wrinkles and lines by using the gentle injecting techniques which make the procedure very comfortable with minimum side effects.

Botox is for both men and women!

It is common misconception that botox anti-wrinkle injections are popular only among females. Though females certainly do discuss about it openly, men are equally showing interest in improving and enhancing their facial profiles. Men have different level of facial muscles and thickness as compared to women who have different aesthetic enhancement goals.

As the facial muscles and skin of men is thicker than women, they might need slightly more of Botox to achieve the desired results. The most popular areas of treatment with Botox in men are frown lines and area along the forehead while majority of women look for a treatment of frown lines, crow’s feet, bunny lines and neck cords.

The reasons why men and women desire to have Botox treatment are almost the same. At CosmeDocs, both men and women are seeking the cosmetic benefits of Botox because in some it helps to improve their social status while in others it is essential to remain competitive at their office or workplace. Some demand it for their own satisfaction, to quench their desire of always looking young and attractive.

Baby Botox / Microtox – What is this?

Baby Botox or Microtox is specially designed advanced Botox injections technique which is used for the clients who demand a more natural and subtle changes in their facial profile. BabyTox treatment is also highly popular and demanded by those clients who are undergoing first Botox anti-wrinkle treatment or by ones who are working in a media or fashion industry which constantly need them to maintain their natural and youthful expression in a natural and delicate manner.

The production of collagen declines in the facial areas which are continuously creasing. This is the reason that with ageing the wrinkles permanently sets in the creased areas. When botox is injected into that area it relaxes the muscles that cause wrinkles which gives time to the body to produce collagen which helps in reducing those lines.

When Baby Botox is injected in small amounts into the upper skin layer called ‘dermis’ and into the superficial layer of facial muscles, it relaxes the outermost layer of muscles while diffusing into sebaceous and sweat glands. This slows down the movement of muscles in the superficial layer which creates wrinkles without effecting the movement of deep muscles, giving a more natural and soft appearance. This does not create a ‘frozen’, ‘expressionless’ or ‘over-botoxed’ look.

The additional advantage of Baby Botox is decreased sweating and production of sebum which is a cause of reduction in skin sheen and open pores.

Majority of the people choose the Baby Botox treatment for the common treatment areas such as frown lines, crow’s feet and forehead. They want this treatment in order to retain their remaining muscle movements for more natural expressions along with the skin smoothness which is offered by Microtox.

During your initial consultation session at CosmeDocs for Botox anti-wrinkle treatment, your specialist will tailor a completely individualized treatment plan. Your specialist practitioner will pay special attention to the meticulous details on your face such as eyebrow position, upper eyelid skin hooding, and will select the most suitable treatment & dose that will fulfil your individualized requirements. Please see below for possible treatment options.

Botox Injection Treatment Areas

1. Forehead lines

These are the parallel grooves which form on the forehead as result of continuous frontalis muscle contractions and due to elevation of the eyebrows. This condition generally worsens with ageing, excessive exposure to sun, stress and distress. These lines can add age to your facial profile.

Treatment: At CosmeDocs, we have an extensive experience of treating this condition with Botulinum Toxin. Highly controlled quantity of Botox is injected into the Frontalis muscles which smooth the forehead causing reduction in visibility of horizontal lines. We also provide specially tailored Botox treatment for elevating the lateral portion of eyebrow which helps in lifting the heavy eyebrows but this is not an option suitable for everyone and needs to be discussed during the consultation. Very deep forehead lines may require additional treatment to stimulate collagen in the skin such as PDO Threads.

2. Frown Lines

We often frown while expressing negative emotions like anger, disappointment, frustration or tiredness. This leads to the formation of vertical and horizontal lines on the forehead caused by contraction of the group of muscles. Botox is used to depress and weaken these muscles which cause a reduction in the frown lines and gives a more positive and relaxed facial profile. Some studies also indicated that the treatment of frown area with botox helps in elevating the mood and might prevent migraines and headaches.

Botox acts very well on the dynamic frown lines however static frown lines (deep frown lines visible at rest) may require a combination of treatment including botox and dermal fillers.

Treatment: This condition is typically treated by injecting 3-5 Botox injections in the frown lines area to relax the muscles. There are considerable variations in the strength of these muscles and often a stronger dose of Botox is needed to completely relax the muscle movements.

3. Eye wrinkles

The lines and creases that form at the lateral sides of the eye are referred to as ‘crow’s feet’. There are different contributing factors in the formation of these lines like laughing, ageing, sun exposure, squinting etc. The dynamic lines can be easily and effectively treated with Botox anti-wrinkle treatment which stops them from turning into static wrinkles and lines.

The static lines which appear due to ageing and sun damage needs some additional treatments along with Botox like dermal fillers, PDO threadlift, chemical peels or laser resurfacing.

Treatment options: the creases around and under the eye amplifies the ageing appearance, dark circles and reflects tiredness. The botox eye-wrinkle treatment involves 3-4 botox injections which are injected on each side of the eyes. This targets the lateral part of the muscle responsible for squinting which helps in reduction of crow’s feet and lifts the end part of eyebrows. Deeper lines that are not resolved with botox may require dermal fillers for further improvement.

4. Eyebrow Lift

Eyebrow plays a significant role in altering our facial appearance. Slightly arched eyebrows give a young, captivating and happy appearance. As we age, the lateral part of eyebrow is increasingly prone to hooding. This makes the application of eyeshadow difficult as well as gives an expression of tiredness or worry.

Botox can effectively lift up the eyebrow giving it a gentle arched appearance. This Botox is often combined with the other treatment areas like crow’s feet which help synergistically. Please note the eyebrow lift is a gentle treatment and does not lift the hooding of the skin in the upper eyelids significantly.

Treatment options: To lift the eyebrows small quantities of Botox are injected into the lateral portion of an eyebrow. This causes the depressor muscle(s) to relax, which is the reason for downward eyebrow pull. The alternative muscles are treated which helps in achieving an eyebrow lift for instance:

A combination of Botox treatment with PDO threadlift tightens the facial skin and promotes production of collagen. This maybe be suitable for some clients with deep lines the upper face.before and afer picture of Eyebrow Lift Treatment

5. Bunny Lines

As a result of squinting or scrunching or due to ageing, diagonal lines appear naturally on the both sides of a nose which are called “bunny lines”. They can also be a result of compensatory movement after the frown area has been treated with Botox. These lines are treated by injecting small quantities of Botox on the either sides of the nose.

Treatment options: Botox bunny lines treatment is adopted for treating these lines. Small quantities of botox are injected along the muscles in the side walls and in the dorsum of the nose. The treatment of muscles responsible for frowning are often recommended alongside.

6. Nasal Flaring

when your nostrils enlarge during the process of breathing, it is called nasal flaring. For some individuals nasal flaring is natural while for others it might be due to a wide nose or have well-developed nostril muscles. It can be a cause of embarrassment and gives an unattractive sight.

Treatment options: For treating the problem of nasal flaring, small quantities of Botox are injected into the nose which relaxes the nasalis dilator muscles causing a reduction in the width of nostrils and its aperture. The treatment gives a narrower appearance. There can be a little pain, bruising, redness and swelling which usually subsides in few days while effectively weakening the nasal muscle and narrowing the aperture of nasals. It considerably reduces the nasal flaring. The effects of treatment remain for about 4-6 months.

7. Oily T-Zone

The T-zone area of the face has high concentration of sebaceous oil glands on the face. One of the benefits of Botox is that it restricts and blocks the function of these glands. The outcome of this blockage is positive in those patients who have excessively oily T-zone. It results in improving the texture of the skin, cause reduction in the size of the pores and decrease breakout of spores.

8. Droopy Nose Tip

When some people smile their nose droop or they may droop their nose willingly. The drooping nose is also called “Witches Nose”. There is a very small but strong muscle in the septum referred to as ‘Depressor Septi Nasi Muscle’ which is responsible for the drooping nose. This muscle is also superiorly attached to the nasalis.

Treatment options: Botox treatment can be used for relaxing the muscles in the tip of the nose which are responsible for muscle drooping. Small doses of Botox are injected into the nose tip which pulls down the nose tip.

Along with Botox treatment, dermal fillers treatment can also be combined to give a more attractive and pleasing appearance to the nose.

9. Smoker’s Lip Line

Plump, luscious and rosy lips with well-defined lip line are an emblem of youthfulness, freshness and sensuousness. As we age, our lips become thin, wrinkled and lose their contours and colour. The diagonal lines which appear on the lips in women cause lipstick bleeding. These lines are often known as ‘Smoker’s lines’, can also be caused due to habitual lip pursing, ageing and photo damage.

Treatment options: Variety of treatments is available for smoothing these lip lines. In case of dynamic wrinkles which are a result of lip pursing, Botox anti-wrinkle injections are a best suited treatment. Small doses of Botox are injected into the upper and lower lip lines, superficially. In case of static perioral lines, the combination of treatments including dermal fillers, resurfacing using chemical peels and laser, prove to be also quite effective.

10. Gummy smile

When an excessive amount of upper gum become visible while smiling or laughing it is referred to as gummy smile. It is often a cause of embarrassment, anxiety and stress among the individuals who have such problem. It can cause withdrawn social behaviours such as avoiding smile, photographs, facing people etc.

The levator muscle in the upper lip is a cause of this problem which is treated with Botox.

Treatment options: first the levator muscle is identified and small doses of Botox are injected into the muscle instantly above and lateral to the nostrils. This Botox treatment helps in relaxing the muscle in the upper lip which gives it a lengthened appearance. This cause a reduction in the visibility of the gum while smiling. This treatment can also help in softening the nasolabial folds.

11. Drooply lip corner (downward /sad mouth-Marionette Lines)

Some people especially women possess constant downward mouth corners. The Furrows or marionette lines appear from the corners of the mouth (oral commissures) which gives an expression of sadness or melancholy to the face. This downturned smile results from the downward pull of the depressor muscle from the corners of the mouth.

Treatment options: The muscle is required to be identified on grimacing for the Botox treatment. Then small doses of Botox are injected into the origin of the muscle on both sides of the jawline. Botox weakens the muscle which pulls the corners downward and allows the levator muscle of the mouth to pull the corners in the upward direction.

The dermal fillers treatment in combination with Botox treatment can be used to reduce the deep lines which extend from the corners of the mouth. Newer treatments include stimulating your own collagen using PDO Threads

12. Chin lines & Puckering

When the deep mentalis muscle of the chin undergo excessive movement it cause prominent chin puckering along with some horizontal mental creases which sometimes appear underneath the lower lip.

Treatment options :1 or 2 injections are injected into the chin. The mentalis muscle is relaxed which smoothens the chin and cause reduction in the creases or dimpling.

In case there are deeper grooves in the chin, a combination of dermal fillers treatment along with Botox can give optimal results.

13. Botox Facelift/Nefertiti Facelift

A young, tight, smooth and fresh looking face with a contoured jawline is the secret of youthful beauty. As we age, the facial skin sags resulting in the formation of descending jowls in the lower face causing a loss of definition between the jaw and neck. For treating this condition non-surgical facelift treatment is performed which gives the desired facelift result.

Treatment options: A nonsurgical facelift treatment or Nefertiti facelift treatment is used to treat the sagging face and jawline. The treatment is named Nefertiti facelift after the Ancient Egyptian queen ‘Nefertiti’ who was renowned for her beauty with long neck and narrow cheeks which became a beauty standard.

This botox treatment mainly targets the depressor muscles and relaxes them along with the other muscles of the lower face. The opposing levator muscles help in lifting up the facial skin while sharpening the jawline.

If individuals also have a wider and square jawline due to the existence of large masseter (jaw) muscle, Botox jaw reduction treatment along with the facelift treatment can be recommended. This treatment helps in restoring the definition of cheekbone and recreates the inverted triangle of youth.

However, Non-surgical facelift treatment is not recommendable for the individuals having excessive laxity of skin. In such cases, PDO threadlift treatment for complete facial contouring and rejuvenation can give much better results. It is an advanced treatment in which PDO threads are used to lift the face and they help in improving the production of collagen and elastin within the skin, giving tighter, smoother and rejuvenated skin. Other causes of skin sagging include volume loss which is best replaced with dermal fillers or a combination of PDO Threads & Dermal Fillers.

14. Jaw muscle reduction for wide jaw /lower face

The reduction in the size of wider jaw is one of the most demanded treatments at CosmeDocs. The jawline contour is defined by the angle of the mandiable as well as the size of the masseter muscle. There can be different reasons of wider and square jawline. It may be due to hereditary factors but it is often associated with the personal habits like excessive gum chewing or teeth grinding or clenching (Bruxism). The hypertrophy of the masseter muscle is caused by excessive biting.

Botox jaw reduction treatment: if the wideness of the jaw is due to masseter muscle, Botox is injected into the masseter muscle which reduces in size. Botox partially relaxes the masseter muscle by blocking its function inducing atrophy. As time pass, the muscle decreases in size. This creates a sharper and slimmer jawline while enhancing the inverted triangle of youth which is an emblem of youthfulness.

Other combination treatments like PDO threads can be used for facial slimming & reduce lower face fat layer contributing to a wider lower face.

15. Neck cords (Turkey Neck )

As we age, a large sheet of muscle known as ‘Platysma’ appears which covers the interior and lateral portions of the neck. Due to contraction, vertical lines appear on the neck which may become protruded with time forming bands and cords.

Treatment options: small superficial quantities of Botox are injected into the platysma muscle when the muscle is contracted. The Botox injections are injected along the visible bands. This treatment helps in relaxing the neck muscle, softening the visibility of neck cords. It can also help in reducing the ‘fullness’ underneath the chin.

Individuals who have sagging neck skin or excessive fat in the neck area are not suitable for Botox neck treatment as it will not improve their condition. Our practitioners will conduct a thorough evaluation and will select the appropriate individuals for the advanced Botox for neck treatment.

Combination of other treatments with Botox can be used to refine the results. Dermal fillers like Redensity 1 can be combined with mesotherapy which gives the advantage of hyaluronic acid and volume replacement, Aqualyx treatment may help in removing the fat deposits in neck and radiofrequency and PDO Thread Treatments help promote collage and skin tightness

16. Décolletage

The loss of volume in this area becomes a cause of appearance of lines and the skin starts to appear more compounded due to bras that push the breasts up.Treatment options: to treat this condition small quantities of Botox are superficially injected into the chest skin. This helps in smoothing the lines caused due to muscle contraction. For the deeper static lines, dermal fillers give better results. Other combination treatments with Botox like skin care, dermal fillers, laser resurfacing, skin peels, PDO Threads give more effective results as each can address a specific problem occurring in that region.

1. Bruxism/ Tempromandibular Joint (TMJ) Disorder or Jaw Tension

TMJ disorder is a condition which leads to the tension in the joint of the jaw bone caused due to the overwork of the jaw muscle. This results in the severe pain in jaw, head and neck. The point where the skull meets the jaw bone a joint is located which plays a crucial role in talking and eating. Botox can help in relieving the tension in the jaw muscles while reducing the headaches and pain during chewing. It may also help in minimising the jaw lock.

Bruxism is another closely related condition that is caused due to teeth grinding or teeth clenching. This is quite common and almost 5-20% of adults are affected by it. This condition is usually a result of stress and may happen in day or at night. In extreme cases, the masseter muscle become exceptionally strong, leading to acute dental damage, headaches, jaw ache and neck ache. As the condition continues, the muscle further enlarges and become stronger aggravating the damage. The facial shape changes with a wider jawline showing off the bulge of masseter muscle. To protect the teeth from damage, dentists recommend night guards.

Treatment: Botox injections are injected into the jawline which partially weakens or relax the masseter muscles and reduces their size (atrophy). This helps in reducing the pressure on the joint while teeth grinding or clenching and cause significant improvement in symptoms of bruxism. However, it does not cure the underlying reason of bruxism.

The Botox treatment procedure for bruxism usually involves few Botox injections that are injected on either side of the jaw line into each masseter muscle. It is easy and almost pain free treatment with the results lasting almost 3-6 months. Later on patients are given a follow up and review to evaluate further treatment options and doses for maintenance.

2. Facial sweating and blushing

The hyper signalling of the autonomic nervous system cause excessive sweating and blushing.Treatment: Botox treatment for excessive sweating and blushing give good results in treating such patients who have these conditions. Botox acts by blocking the nerves that send messages to the glands which cause sweating and blushing. For more information about these conditions and problems visit the pages below;
  • Excessive sweating(hyperhidrosis)
  • Blushing

3. Headaches and migraines

Migraine are the debilitating headaches that occur for almost 15 days of every month and are a cause of intense pulsing and throbbing in the head. In 2010,Botox was licensed by FDA for the migraine treatment. Botox for migraine treatment may provide some relief to the migraine patients who have not responded well to the other kind of preventive treatment drugs.

Botox for treatment of migraines: It is still not clear how exactly Botox ease migraine and headaches but there are some suggestions about its effects like:

  • Botox relaxes the muscles in head which may aid in reducing the pressure of blood in the brain.
  • Botox may control the messages of pain that nerves send to the brain.
  • Botox may inhibit the nerve signals that stimulate migraines.

The studies conducted about Botox and chronic migraines show that it significantly helps in reducing the intensity as well as frequency of headaches and helps in improving the quality of life of patients. The researchers also suggest that the Botox injections injected in head and neck can improve the condition and can be repeated after every 12 weeks for positive results.

Small Botox doses are injected into the frontalis and temporalis muscles which relax them and help in the reduction of headaches.

Temporalmandibular Disorder (TMJ) may also trigger some severe headaches. There is a possibility that Botox may relieve this pain by acting on the chewing muscle. You can find more information regarding this in Bruxism and TMJ section.

4. Bell’s palsy Correction of facial asymmetry

Botox is not directly a treatment for Bell’s palsy. Some of the symptoms such as facial asymmetry may improve with the use of Botox.

The patients suffering from Bell’s palsy may try to overcompensate by using their unaffected side which may cause an exaggeration of the lines and expression on that side.

Treatment: To create a balance between both sides of the face, small amounts of Botox are cautiously injected into the hyperkinetic lines and muscles.

We aim to provide a clear understanding of the effects and common side effects of treatment with botulinum toxin. Please make sure you understand these and ask your practitioner any question you do not comprehend fully. At CosmeDocs we believe that transparency provides the best foundation for a great doctor-patient relationship. It is important that clients know that complications do occur and decisions they make to undergo any treatment accepts the possibility of them occurring along with the capability of dealing with them. Not all people are suitable for cosmetic treatments. Some may have over realistic expectations and others may not have the proper approach to accepting the side effects.

Which Botulinum Toxin is used at CosmeDocs?

At CosmeDocs, we make use of three popular Botox brands in which the active substance is Botulinum toxin type A. These include Azzalure® (Dysport®), Bocouture® (Xeomin®) and Vistabel® (Botox®).

The practitioner varies the dilution and injection techniques according to the types of the product used for treatment. At CosmeDocs, we value the wish of our patients and can make use of a particular brand if a patient requests it. Our practitioners ensure that they use the most suited product for the treatment area to get the best results as they have extensively used all products. Using some of the more rarely used brands in our clinic may incur additional fees.

How do Botox injections work?

When small doses of botox are injected into the skin, the botox stops the actions of the target muscles causing them to relax by blocking the action of nerve impulses that send messages to the muscles. This relaxes the muscle and prevents the skin from getting creased. This not only reverses the wrinkles or lines present on the face but also prevents their further appearance in treated area. There is emerging new evidence to state that the lines do reverse with continued treatment.

How is the Botox treatment procedure performed?

The Botox treatment procedure is completed in just few minutes but depends on the number of areas to be treated. A very fine needle is use for injecting Botox into the specific muscles which cause only minor pain and discomfort and some patients refer it to a small insect bite. The effects of the Botox usually require 3 to 7 days to become visible. Aspirin and any other type of anti-inflammatory medication should be stopped at least 7 days before undertaking the Botox treatment for reducing any kind of bruising. But it is important that you should consult your doctor before taking the treatment if you are taking any prescription medication.

How often should I have Botox injections?

This largely depends on your personal preferences of aesthetic improvements. For those individuals who want to have natural appearance while avoiding the formation of deep lines, a Botox treatment once a year or repeated treatments with Baby Botox are recommended. Some individuals may be satisfied with just one treatment and return for Botox treatment only if they develop annoying lines, again. There are some others who want to attain a smooth and lasting look needs to have repeated Botox treatments after every 4-6 months.

How Botox is different from the other drugs?

Botox only cause a blockage of nerve transmission to the underlying muscles underneath the skin. This causes the muscle to relax and stops its activity. The effects of Botox treatment are temporary which usually fades away in almost 6 months. Though repeated treatments may provide a synergistic long term benefit.

How Botox injections are different from the Dermal fillers such as Teosyal & Restylane?

Botox is basically a purified natural protein which relaxes the muscles and stops their action. On the other hand, Teosyal is a kind of dermal filler which fills up the lines and wrinkles giving volume to your skin. Botox is used for the treatment of dynamic wrinkles and lines whereas dermal fillers are used for treating static or permanent wrinkles and lines. Many deep lines such as the frown may require a combination of both treatments.

Has FDA approved the use of Botox injections?

In April 2002, FDA approved the use of Botox injections for cosmetic uses.

Is Botox safe?

When expert, professional and qualified professionals perform the Botox treatment procedure, it is comparatively safe. Some of the most common side effects may include swelling and bruising where Botox injections are injected and some flu-like symptoms can be seen. In the hands of an inexperienced and unprofessional practitioner, Botox injections can affect the function of the adjacent muscles much more. Nevertheless, this is a temporary side effect that needs to be taken into account when deciding to proceed with botox treatment.

Which areas of face are treated by Botox?

Traditionally, the Botox injections are well-known for treating frown lines, crow’s feet around the eyes and creases on the forehead. However, with advanced understanding of the dosages and actions many more areas are now being successfully treated with botox. Please see the picture above for possible treatment options.

How long it will take to administer Botox injections?

Are Botox injections painful?

Most of the patients receiving Botox Treatment, report a sensation which is almost similar to a small insect sting which lasts for few seconds.

What I should not do after receiving Botox treatment?

After the treatment, you may be asked by the doctor to keep the injected muscle active for a few hours. Depending on your treatment area, the activity may involve frowning, smiling or raising eyebrows.

It is recommended that you SHOULD NOT massage or rub the treated area and avoid touching it. Unnecessary pressure on the treated area can cause the spread of Botox to other areas which can cause unwanted effects. For at least 24 hours, avoid applying makeup. If it is necessary, then apply minimal pressure. You can apply the powder with softer brush strokes.

It is also advised that you should not play any kind of sports on the day you have Botox treatment. You can resume your normal daily activities. In addition to this, it is also recommended that you should not go for any kind of facial treatment for at least 3 days after having Botox injections.

How long does the effect of Botox last for?

There are numerous factors which effect the duration of Botox like individual response, previous botox treatments, the dose of Botox injections and the type of product used. Generally, the treatment is expected to last for 3-6 months on average. There are many patients who report the effects of results lasting for about 6+ months but this is not always the case for clients who are just starting to have botox treatments.

How often should I go for Botox treatment?

It is recommended by CosmeDocs that you should schedule your treatments every four to six months. This will help you in maintaining your consistent facial profile through the first year. After that, you may delay your treatment depending on muscle strength, activity and wrinkle depth. Advice will be given during a consultation upon examining your wrinkle dynamics.

Will the movement of muscles remain same after the effects of Botox treatment wears off?

When the effects of the Botox in the treated area wears off, muscle usually regain their strength and restore their normal function which makes the lines to reappear as before. Some patients feel that botox has helped to reduce their habitual muscle movements so they may frown less for instance. Muscles become weak for longer period with repeated Botox treatments so with passage of time it may take longer for the muscles to regain their strength.

How much is the cost of Botox treatment?

What are the side effects of Botox treatment?

The most commonly observed side effects observed at the area of Botox treatment are bruising, redness and swelling but this is only a temporary condition which usually eliminates in few days. Other mild side effects may include muscle weakness in the treated area, pain, headache, flu-like symptoms, muscle stiffness, drowsiness, drooping eyes, back or neck pain, etc. All these side effects are only temporary and quite rare which usually subsides in a week or so as the body adjusts naturally to the Botox drug. You better consult your doctor before undergoing any sort of Botox treatment. See below for more side effects.

What’s the worse can happen in case of any mishap?

The possibility of risks largely depends on the areas of treatment. There is a possibility that eyelids or eyebrows droop while treating the frown lines. The possible cause is not always certain because it may be caused due to the wrong injection technique, excessive dilution of Botox or accidental movement of Botox due to immediate activity after the procedure. If it happens, the droop normally goes away in 4-6 weeks. In some of the cases, eye drops may be recommended to improve the symptoms. Misplaced Botox in the lower part of the face can cause asymmetrical lips while talking or smiling. Again, the effects wear off but such complications are rare but sometimes expected and part of the treatment process. You’re practitioner will discuss this with you during the consultation. Bruising, swelling and redness are the most commonly seen side effects with occasional dull headaches for a few days lasting from a few days to a few weeks have been reported.

Will Botox give me shiny look?

The awareness about the ‘Shiny forehead’ after the botox treatment is largely created by media and this kind of look is often avoided by majority of clients. This shiny appearance of forehead is due to the overly treated forehead which has little movement resulting in an ultrasmooth forehead where the reflection of the light gives a smooth shiny appearance. To attain a more natural look with movement and expressions, small doses of Baby Botox injections can be used. The important point to note here is that Botox is also known to reduce the problem of excessive sweating, therefore it is quite rare that perspiration cause shiny forehead after Botox treatment.

What is the right age for Botox?

Botox treatment has no age limit. The important thing to consider before the Botox treatment is the health status of the client. Therefore before the treatment, we request the clients to fill a specially designed medical questionnaire at every appointment to identify any treatment contradictions.

The minimum age is 18 years for cosmetic use at our clinic. However it is quite unlikely that the individuals of this age group have any indications for Botox treatment. Our doctors can give an appropriate advice regarding the treatment. For medical treatments we take it on a case by case basis. Botox has been used for decades in young children with spastic muscle disorders and at our clinic in excessive sweating cases that cause severe embarrassment in children.

I would like to have a Botox treatment for preventing wrinkles, is it possible?

Many individuals want to take preventive measures before the appearance of deep lines and wrinkles which their parents or siblings have. Botox give quite good results for treating dynamic lines that are formed as a result of muscle contraction. So it is possible to have preventive Botox anti-wrinkle treatment to prevent the formation of deep lines and wrinkles. When you should consider this is difficult to advice without a proper consultation and examination of the dynamics of your wrinkles.

Which is better, dermal filler or Botox?

This question is often asked by many clients and the answer depends upon the concerns of the individual. CosmeDocs has endeavoured to outline clearly the probable problem areas on this particular website from where you can get all the information regarding the possible options.

Generally, Botox treatment is a preferred option for the dynamic lines and wrinkles which are caused by active muscle movements. On the other hand, dermal fillers are recommended to fill up volume loss and to treat deep, static lines and wrinkles. The treatment options are comprehensively discussed at the initial appointment with the patients as some patients may benefit from one or another or both.

Can the Botox treatment leave any permanent mark on my skin?

Long term scarring is highly unlikely because very tiny and fine needles are used for injecting Botox. Usually, small red bumps appear at the treatment site which normally disappears in 15-20 minutes. Some people who are prone to pigmentation may get some fine darker spots where the injection was administered, though this is rare.
